Other brain injury treatments include the use of new neurotechnologies for brain stimulation. Neurotechnologies include transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial direct current stimulation and deep brain stimulation. Both transcranial magnetic stimulation and transcranial direct current stimulation can non-invasively stimulate the brain. They can selectively increase or decrease activity in specific brain regions. Ultrasound is another new tool that may find increasing use to improve those who have brain injuries.
In the future, stem cells may be used to replace damaged tissue. Many of these treatment methods could help to rehabilitate brain injured patients. Stem cells may be able to replace practically any type of missing brain tissue. As tissue engineering becomes more and more sophisticated this will be more likely to happen as time goes on.
Brain computer interfaces can also help those who have difficulties due to a brain injury.
